New London, Conn. – Jordan Foster scored four goals to propel the Connecticut College men’s lacrosse team to a 10-4 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small Colleg Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on a cold and extremely windy Wednesday evening at Silfen Field.  Trinity drops to 3-6 overall and 0-5 in the league, while the No. 20-ranked Camels are now 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference.  Trinity will host NESCAC rival Hamilton on Saturday at 1 p.m. in its next game.

Connecticut College outscored Trinity, 4-0, in the opening quarter and never trailed in the contest. Foster opened the scoring at 11:48 before Kelleher set up the next two markers, which included finding freshman Charlie Bernicke on the team’s first man-up opportunity of the contest.  The Bantams sliced the deficit in half with the first two goals of the second quarter by juniors Scott Morgan (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Max Herman (San Francisco, Calif.), but Foster struck again with 2:21 on the clock to give the Camels a 5-2 lead at the break. Trinity junior Spud Dunn (McLean, Va.) fed sophomore Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.) for the first goal of the second half, but Connecticut College used another 4-0 in the third and fourth quarters to pull away.

The Bantams outshot the Camels by a 34-31 margin, but junior netminder Jameson Hill made 13 saves for the home squad. Trinity had four players score a goal and six accumulate a point, as rookie Alistair Matule (Charlestown, Mass.) assisted sophomore attackman Matt Gardiner (Potomac, Md.) for the last Bantam marker in the fourth quarter.  Morgan won all seven of the team’s faceoffs, scoring on one of them, and picked up five ground balls. Trinity senior tri-captain Woody Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass.) matched Hill with 13 saves of his own, while sophomore defender Matt Bicknese (New Vernon, N.J.) notched three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. The Camels also scored a goal in all three special teams situations, which included getting two man-up markers and another on their only penalty of the contest. In addition, the hosts won 11 of the 18 faceoffs and had a 34-24 advantage in ground balls.

Hartford, Conn. - Senior Grace O'Donnell (Yarmouth, Maine) and first-year Sophie Berger (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) had three goals and one assist each to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 17-2 victory over the visiting Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this evening at Jessee/Miller Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 8 in the nation, improves to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the NESCAC with its fourth win in a row, while the Camels fall to 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the league.  The Bantams will visit conference rival Hamilton on Saturday at noon and Connecticut College will host NESCAC foe Bates at the same time on the same day.

Trinity raced to a 10-0 lead by the 9:12 mark of the first half, including two tallies apiece by Berger, senior tri-captain midfielder Allie Barrett (Concord, Mass.), and sophomore midfielder Emma Fehnel (Wenham, Mass.).  Sophomore Kate Bermingham (Amherst, N.H.) scored the first Camel goal with 7:34 left in the opening stanza, converting on a pass from the right wing by classmate Julia Loesch (Charlotte, N.C.), but the Bantams answered with a 6-0 run.  First-year midfielder Kendall Milligan (Needham, Mass.) gave the momentum back to the home squad with the final goal of the first half with 4:36 on the clock, and sophomore attacker Caroline Toomey (Wrentham, Mass.) fed O'Donnell on two of the six Trinity goals during the 6-0 spurt to give the Bantams a 16-1 advantage with 8:46 left to play.  Each team scored one in the final two minutes.

Trinity outshot Connecticut College, 25-10, and the Camels committed 15 turnovers to nine for the Bantams.  Barrett joined O'Donnell and Berger with Trinity hat tricks, while Milligan finished with a goal and two assists.  Sophomore defender Morgan Strabley (Summit, N.J.) scooped three ground balls, and senior tri-captain defender Clara Nowlan (Needham, Mass.) notched two ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Bantams.  Senior tri-captain Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) and rookie Karinna Cave-Hawkins (Edgewater, Md.) combined for five Trinity saves, and first-year Marcella Flibotte (Cohasset, Mass.) contributed a team-high two draw controls and two caused turnovers.  Junior Jamie Navoni (Natick, Mass.) scored the second Camel goal and added a game-high six draw controls, while sophomore Kirby Heffrin (Marblehead, Mass.) paced Connecticut College with two ground balls. Trinity Softball Buries Bates in NESCAC East Opener

Jenna Thomas '21
Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College softball team scored eight runs through the game's first three innings en route to a 9-1 victory over the visiting Bates College Bobcats on Friday afternoon in the teams' New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) East series opener in Hartford. Trinity improves to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in divisional action while the Bobcats fall to 9-4 on the year and 0-1 in league play. The two sides return to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader, beginning with game one at noon.
Senior captain Rachael Smith (Winchester, Mass.) picked up her fifth win of the season for the Bantams in the circle, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out four in the mercy-rule shortened, six inning game. Junior SS Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while senior captain CF Meaghan Race (Grand Rapids, Mich.) also drove in two runs and first-year DP Jenna Thomas (Orange, Conn.) recorded her first multi-hit game of her career with a 2-for-3 performance. Bobcat rookie Caroline Bass (Newton, Mass.) was the lone Bates player to tally multiple hits as she went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Trinity got things going in the first when senior LF Erica Merullo (Lynnfield, Mass.) started the inning with a base hit before swiping second, her fourth stolen bag of the year. Merullo advanced to third on a ground ball out by senior captain 2B Michelle Treglia (Fairfield, Conn.) before crossing the plate on an RBI-single off the bat of Erickson.
Bates threatened in the top of the second after a walk by Mary Collette (Watertown, Mass.) and singles from Paige Ahlholm (North Andover, Mass.) and Kirsten Pelletier (Sidney, Maine) loaded the bases, however Smith showed resiliency and left the bases loaded while keeping the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the time being. The Bantams scored twice more in the home half thanks to a double to deep left-centerfield by Thomas that scored junior C Nicole Towner (Erie, Colo.), before Thomas later came around to score on a passed ball.
Trinity took advantage of three Bobcat errors in the third inning to put up a five-spot and open up an 8-0 advantage. Thomas and Race both drove in runs on RBI-singles to highlight the inning's scoring.
After a scoreless fourth inning by both sides, Bates stayed alive in the fifth when Andrea Russo, who led the inning off with a walk, came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the barrell of Collette. Pelletier, Bates' starting pitcher, kept the Bantams from scoring in the home half despite getting two runners on with no outs, but the Bantams came through the following inning to walk off.
Treglia led the inning off with a hard-hit double down the left field line which brought Erickson to the plate. Erickson laced a ball past the shortstop and into the outfield, bringing Treglia home and capping off the 9-1 victory.

Trinity Baseball Defeated by Brandeis, 5-1

Captain Christian Orsini '18
Hartford, Conn. - Brandeis starting pitcher Greg Tobin (Medway, Mass.) struck out nine while allowing just one run in a complete game victory as the Judges defeated the Trinity College Bantams, 5-1, on Friday afternoon at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium. The Bantams fall to 2-6 overall while Brandeis improves to 2-6 on the year. Trinity returns to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader at home versus the Westfield State Owls, beginning at noon.
Senior captain CF Christian Orsini (Livingston, N.J.) and sophomore SS Matt Koperniak (Adams, Mass.) were the only two Bantams to record multiple hits as Tobin scattered eight across the nine innings. Orsini finished 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base and a run, while Koperniak went 3-for-4 in his fourth multi-hit game of the spring. Trinity rookie starter Justin Olson (Avon, Conn.) went six innings in the loss, allowing three earned while striking out four.
Brandeis struck first in the top of the first when Isaac Fossas (Dudley, Mass.) singled up the middle to score Victor Oppenheimer (West Hills, Calif.) who reached on a base hit of his own earlier in the inning. Both pitchers held strong for the next four innings before trading runs in the sixth to make it a 2-1 ballgame in favor of the Judges.
Brandeis took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth when Dan O'Leary (Lynnfield, Mass.) drove home Dan Frey (Ipswich, Mass.) on a two-out, RBI-single. The Bantams chipped away at the deficit in the home half when Orsini led things off with a triple to the right-centerfield gap before coming around to score on a sacrifice fly to left field. Koperniak kept the line moving with a base hit but Tobin limited the damage to the lone run, his only blemish on the day, to keep the lead at 2-1.
The Judges put up a two-spot in the seventh thanks to a RBI-single by Scott Ziegler (Avon, Conn.) and a fielder's choice RBI from Frey to open up a 4-1 lead. The Bantams went hitless in the seventh and eighth innings before Frey scored in the top of the ninth to make it a 5-1 game in favor of the visitors. Trinity made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth, leading off with singles by Koperniak and first-year DH Eric Thronson (McLean, Va.), but Tobin retired the side after that to seal the four-run victory.

The Bantams got goals from seven different players while junior Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) tied a game-high six ground balls and classmate Scott Morgan (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and senior Matthew Barker (Sudbury, Mass.) both collected five.
Trinity drew first blood as senior Brian Crowe (Cranbury, N.J.) connected with the back of the net off an assist from junior Teddy Myers (Washington, D.C.) on the game's opening faceoff. The Bobcats answered, however, with three consecutive scores, two by Chlastawa and one by Jones, to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. Neither team managed to get on the board in the second quarter until the Bobcats added their fourth goal of the game with just 26 seconds left before the half when Chlastawa assisted on a Curtis Knapton goal to give the hosts a 4-1 lead at the half.
Bates scored four-straight to start the second half and open up a commanding, 8-1 lead with 6:51 left to go in the third. Sophomore Morty Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) ended the Bobcat run with a goal at the 5:20 mark in the third quarter before classmate Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.) found netting just three minutes later to cut the deficit to 8-3. The Bobcats scored the first five goals of the final quarter to take a commanding, 14-3 lead with 11:18 showing on the clock. Knaus and rookie Drew Kozub (Hopkinton, Mass.) got two back for the Bantams before Max DeLaMater (Irvington, N.Y.) made it a 14-6 game with 3:03 left to play. Bates' defense kept the Bantams from clawing back as Jones scored a man-up goal with 2:24 left to give Bates a 15-6 lead before Myers netted his first goal of the game with less than two minutes left to account for the 15-7 final score.

Today's game included an hour delay in the fourth inning due to lightning.

Colby took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out RBI double by Tori Sansone, but Trinity first-year C Nicole Towner (Erie, Colo.) tied it with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.  In the top of the fifth frame, Sansone doubled with one out and advanced to third on a single by Skylar Labbe.  Colby's Emily Schatz tripled home both Mules for the game's final two runs, but was stranded at third.  Trinity advanced runners to second base with two outs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Saul got out of trouble both times.

Trinity sophomore righty Rachael Smith (Winchester, Mass.) also went the distance, allowing nine hits and walking four with four strikeouts.  Towner's bomb was the only extra-base hits off Saul, as Trinity senior 2B Elizabeth McQuaid (Lowell, Mass.) and sophomore outfielders Erica Merullo (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Meaghan Race (Grand Rapids, Mich.) each had singles for the home team.  Sansone and Samantha Rizzo were both 2-for-3 offensively for the Mules, while Grace Farnkoff was 2-for-2.  Colby ran into outs three times on the bases including twice on Bantam double plays.
