BEACONS DEFEAT ANCHORMEN, 8-1

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) won (7-4, 7-6) at No. 6 singles as the Anchormen fell to UMass Boston, 8-1, in Little East Conference action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.
 
UMass Boston freshman Josh Bhasin (Tulsa, OK) and junior Jack Wang (Suzhou, China) defeated sophomore duo of Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-1, at the No. 1 pairing.
 
Sophomores Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico) and Guang Huang (Quincy, MA) downed Gambardella and Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT), 9-7, at No. 2 doubles.
 
Senior Zeke Hernandez (Baytown, TX) and junior Hector Mata (San Salvador, El Salvador) defeated junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI), 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.
 
DeLasse topped Taggart (7-6, 6-4) at No. 1 singles, while Bhasin downed Tiberi (7-6, 7-5) at No. 2 singles.
 
Wang defeated Esposito (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Sanshrut Sharma (Mumbai, India) won (6-3, 6-4) over Scott at the fourth flight.
 
Senior Vlad Leopard (Carnikava, Latvia) picked up a win (6-2, 6-1) against Duquette at No. 5 singles. Gambardella downed Hernandez at the sixth flight to salvage a point.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Thursday, April 14 (3:30 p.m.).
