Brown Gymnastics Places Fourth at USAG Team Finals with 194.500

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Brown University gymnastics tied its highest ever team finish with a fourth-place showing behind a score of 194.500 at the 2016 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships Team Finals on Saturday night at Lindenwood University's Hyland Arena.

Making their fourth-straight team appearance and second-ever appearance in the event finals, the Bears scored above the team's program record entering the tournament for the second straight night. Last night in the team preliminary session, Brown scored a program-record 195.175, eclipsing the previous program high mark of 194.225.

At Saturday night's team finals, Brown finished fourth with its 194.500, matching the team's 2013
USAG finish. Host Lindenwood defended its USAG team title with a 195.875 while six-time USAG champion Bridgeport came in second with a 195.800. Seattle Pacific University placed third with a 194.875.

As a team, Brown scored a 48.600 on vault, a 48.450 on bars, a 48.525 on beam, and a 48.925 on floor.

In the all-around, senior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) posted the night's top score with a season-high 39.075 while junior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed her in second with a 38.900. Junior Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) placed fifth with a 38.375.

On vault, Morant paced the team with a personal-best 9.875, tying for second. Mitchell scored a 9.725, and freshman Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) notched a 9.700. Walters posted a 9.675, and junior Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) set a season high with a 9.625.

Walters led the Bears on bars with a 9.775, tying for third. Senior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) finished with a 9.725 while senior Stephanie Choo (Centerville, Ohio) and Mitchell each logged a 9.675. Sophomore Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) added a 9.600.

On beam, Walters registered a 9.850, matching a personal best and tying for fourth. Sophomore Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) and freshman Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) each established a new personal best with a 9.825 and 9.750 respectively. Mitchell and Morant posted a 9.725 and 9.375 apiece.

Morant recorded the team's top score on floor, tying a season high with a 9.850. Williams charted a 9.800 while Mitchell and Walters each compiled a 9.775. Hechtamn scored a 9.725, and Chretien finished with a 9.700.

Five Brown gymnasts will conclude the Bears' season in the individual event finals set for Sunday at 2 p.m. ET due to their finishes in Friday's preliminary session. Morant will compete on vault and bars while senior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) will take part in vault. Chretien, Mitchell, and Butchness will perform on bars, floor, and beam respectively.
