NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mike Melampy and Jack Phillips
each won their singles matches and teamed to win at #3 doubles leading
Coast Guard to a 5-4 win over Springfield in a New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
Melampy and Phillips posted an 8-3 win at #3 doubles while seniors Mark Guentert and Weston Fortna were 8-2 winners at #1 doubles as the Bears won two of the three doubles matches.
In singles action, John Hu
was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at #4, Melampy won 6-4, 6-3 at #5 and Phillips
posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at #6 for the Bears. The Phillips win at #6
clinched the match as the Bears took a 5-1 lead.
Coast Guard improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in NEWMAC play while Springfield dropped to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday at MIT in a NEWMAC match at 1:00.
