ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Junior Caroline Morant
earned four USAG All-America honors – one of six Bears to take home
USAG All-America accolades – as Brown University gymnastics concluded
competition at the 2016 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships
with the Individual Event Finals on Sunday afternoon at Lindenwood
University's Hyland Arena.
Morant (Chicago, Ill.) garnered First Team USAG All-America in the
all-around, on vault, and on bars to go with Second Team on floor.
Junior Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) gained First Team in the all-around and on floor while senior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) collected First Team on vault and Second Team on beam.
Senior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) claimed First Team USAG All-America on bars, and sophomore Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) won First Team on beam. Senior Diana Walters
(Austin, Texas) captured Second Team in the all-around as Brown's six
USAG All-America honorees compiled a total of 11 USAG All-America
awards.
Concluding the team's stay at USAGs, Morant competed on vault and
bars, Holman took part on
vault, Chretien performed on bars, Butchness
competed on beam, and Mitchell performed on floor.
On vault, Morant came in a tie for third with a 9.8250 while Holman
tied for fifth with a 9.8000. Morant placed second on bars with a
9.8250, and Chretien finished ninth in the same event with a 9.6000. On
beam, Butchness placed sixth with a 9.8000, and Mitchell came in 12th on floor with a 9.7250.
Morant has now collected 10 USAG All-America honors in her career –
three times in the all-around, three times on floor, twice on bars, once
on vault, and once on floor.
Walters, the 2014 USAG all-around champion, concluded her career with
five USAG All-America accolades – twice in the all-around, twice on
floor, and once on vault.
Mitchell now holds three USAG All-America nods – twice in the
all-around and once on floor. Chretien gained First Team on bars for the
second time in three years while Butchness claimed First Team on beam
for the second straight season. Holman picked up the first two USAG
All-America honors of her career.
All individual event qualifiers earned First Team USAG All-America
while alternates for the event finals took home Second Team laurels. The
top five gymnasts on each event in the team preliminary session
advanced to the individual event finals.
The top eight finishers in the all-around at Friday's preliminary
sessions earned First Team USAG All-America plaudits while the ninth and
10th-place finishers gained Second Team.
Making its fourth straight appearance at USAGs as a team, Brown
advanced to the team finals for the second time in program history. The
Bears set a school record for team score with a 195.175 in the
preliminary session.
