PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four different
players recorded multiple-hit games but the Brown baseball team dropped a
non-conference game to Rhode Island, 10-6, in midweek action Thursday
afternoon at Murray Stadium.
Brown (9-16) posted 12 hits, while the Rams racked up 14 hits to improve to 12-15 overall.
Senior Noah Shulman (Merrick, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Jake Levine (Newton, Mass.), Kevin Guthrie (Sarasota, Fla.) and Brian Ginsberg (Calabasas, Calif.) had two hits apiece. Brian McManus paced the URI offense with three hits.
Brad Applin earned the win for the Rams out of the bullpen, while Grant Greeno (Glen Ellyn, Ill.)
took the loss for the Bears.
After URI opened with one run in the
first, the Bears responded with four runs in the bottom half on three
hits, as Shulman and Ginsberg hit consecutive RBI singles. URI came
right back with three runs on two hits and one error in the top of the
second, before the home side took one run back on Guthrie's RBI single.
Brown took a two-run lead in the third when Willy Homza
(Anchorage, Alaska) crossed on a passed ball. The Rams then gained the
lead with four runs in the fifth, including a three-run double from
Jesse Lee with one out.
Rhode Island scored tow more runs in the
seventh and then held the Bears off the scoreboard the rest of the way
to secure the victory.
Brown will host Dartmouth in a four-game series this weekend, starting with game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
