PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown field hockey junior Katarina Angus
(West Vancouver, British Columbia) competed with the Canadian Under-21
Women's National Field Hockey team in the 2016 Pan American Junior
Championships in Trinidad & Tobago.
The tournament began on Thursday, March 31 and went through Saturday,
April 9. Angus and the team opened Pool B play against Mexico on March
31 with a 4-0 win. The Canadians next fell to the United States, 5-1, on
April 2. Closing out pool play, the squad posted a 4-0 win against the
host team, Trinidad & Tobago, on April 3. Angus served as the team
captain in the contest and later discussed the win.
Finishing Pool B in second place with six points, the Canadians squared
off against Uruguay, the third-place team from Pool A, in the
quarterfinals on April 5. After a 0-0 score through regulation, the game
went to a penalty shoot out where the Canadians won, 5-3. The team next
took on Argentina, the winner of Pool A with nine points, on April 7
for the semifinal and fell, 9-0.
In the third place game on April 9, the Canadians were defeated 3-0 by Chile, thus finishing in fourth place in the tournament.
A 2015 Second Team All-Ivy selection, Angus wrapped up the fall
recording a career-high in goals (4) and points (9) while also adding an
assist. The defender also tallied two game-winning goals. In addition,
Angus contributed two defensive saves on the year, tying her for seventh
in the conference in that category.
