Area sailors will welcome Gary Jobson, legendary America’s Cup Winner and National Chairman of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Regatta on April 10th at 6:00pm at the Barrington Yacht Club.
Jobson, will speak to several topics some of which include; A look back on the history of the America’s Cup, with special focus on the 34th America’s Cup taking place this summer in San Francisco; Ocean Racing including going around the world in 45 days; College sailing; Speed sailing including current world record holder, Sail Rocket; some favorite sailing stories; and an exciting crash and burn video!
Information will be available about this year’s Nineteenth Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta taking place on June 7th & 8th at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island.
Jobson first got involved with The Leukemia Cup Regatta in 1994. Nine years later he was diagnosed with lymphoma, which is now in remission. Since its inception participants in the Leukemia Cup Regatta have raised more than $38 million to help advance the mission of LLS.
Tickets to the evening’s presentation will cost $20pp with light appetizers and cash bar. If you register your boat for the Regatta by March 31st, you will receive a vintage Mount Gay Rum Hat!.
About the Regatta: This regatta raises funds for blood cancer research and patient services.
It offers a variety of racing formats, including one-design and cruising class. The weekend features events both on and off the water, including “An Evening at Harbour Court”, on June 7th and a post race awards celebration BBQ on June 8th, all overlooking the water in Newport, RI. Last year over $198,000 was raised during this weekend.
