UConn Routs UCF 40-13

ORLANDO, Fla. - Redshirt sophomore quarterback Bryan Shirreffs (Jefferson, Ga.) threw for 256 yards and a touchdown and ran for another while sophomore running back Arkeel Newsome (Ansonia, Conn.) rushed for two more scores as the UConn football team defeated UCF by a 40-13 score before a crowd of 26,669 at Bright House Networks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies improve to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference while the Knights fall of 0-6 and 0-2.

Behne Wins Prestigious Gold Helmet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coast Guard senior Mark Behne has won the prestigious Gold Helmet from the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation which is presented to the Division I (FBS and FCS) and II/III football players who have established himself for outstanding contributions to his team on the given week.

Behne, the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week, received his award at the New England Football Writers luncheons at Harvard and become just the sixth player at the Coast Guard Academy to win the prestigious award.

Behne Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

Senior Mark Behne who was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday has been named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after registering two fourth quarter interceptions the final one in the end zone with 40 seconds left to preserve the Bears 21-14 win at Maine Maritime on Saturday.

He also recorded a career-high 14 tackles from his free safety spot as the Bears improved to 3-2 overall and remained unbeaten at 2-0 in the NEFC as the Bears overcame a 14-0 second quarter deficit.

Behne is third on the team with 40 tackles and leads the team 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and five pass breakups.

Coast Guard is off this week and the Bears return to action on Oct. 17^th when they host MIT as part of Homecoming Weekend with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.

Bears Hold off Maine Maritime 21-14

CASTINE, MAINE – Senior Mark Behne had two of the Bears three fourth quarter interceptions including the final one in the end zone with 40 seconds left as Coast Guard overcame a 14-0 deficit and held off Maine Maritime 21-14 in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) game.

Senior quarterback Derek Victory's 7-yard touchdown pass to classmate Jordan Groff with 11:55 left broke a 14-14 tie. Victory became the Bears all-time passing yards leader in the win as he finished the game with 4,686 yards breaking the mark of 4,569 set by Jon Resch (2009-12).

Coast Guard remains unbeaten with a 2-0 mark in conference play and improve to 3-2 overall while the Mariners drop to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the NEFC.
