Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop and Deputy Mayor Naomi Neville kicked off Jingle Bikes in 1012. |
Newport, Rhode Island - Today, December 13th, Jingle Bikes will be back! - the latest addition to the Newport holiday celebration scene. The pedal-powered Christmas trees at Santa’s Workshop are a rare sighting this side of Copenhagen.
All are invited to come to the kickoff on Friday, December 13th from 5-7pm - at the North Pole on Bowen’s Wharf - on America’s Cup Avenue in Newport. Deputy Mayor Naomi Neville and everyone’s favorite “Cycling Santa!” will officially set the wheels in motion at 5pm.
Music and hot cocoa will be on hand while everyone gets a chance to hop in the saddle and light up the trees!
Jingle Bikes will continue to be open – with snacks, music and holiday happiness – from 5:00-7:00pm on these dates:
Friday 12/13: hosted by NewportFilm, entertainment by Common Fence Music
Saturday 12/14: hosted by the Housing Hotline, entertainment by Jimmy Winters and Friends
Friday 12/20: hosted by the East Bay Met School
Saturday 12/21: hosted by the Preservation Society of Newport County
Sunday 12/22: hosted by the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County
Bring your friends and family and see who lights the lights the fastest and brightest!
Jingle Bikes is made possible by numerous community supporters who want to provide Newport’s residents and visitors a fun way to get physical after those hefty holiday meals while lighting the night for everyone’s enjoyment! People’s Credit Union sponsors the bicycle-powered generators. Bowen’s Wharf provides the perfect place. Newport Bicycle contributes the bicycles. The host organizations and musicians provide refreshments and entertainment. And the people power the trees!
