FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Mitchell College baseball team came from behind
to post a 13-12 win in extra innings over MacMurray College on Tuesday
at the Cusic Classic.
Chandler Whitney went 3-for-5 with a double and a walk while Tyler Pina went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer to lead the offense. Eddie Santiago picked up the win in relief.
The Mariners trailed 6-1 after three but stormed back with a six-run
seventh inning. Mitchell batted around in the frame and took the lead on
a homer by Pina.
With the score tied after nine innings, Mitchell batted around again in
the 10th and put up five runs to take command. However, MacMurray
tallied four runs in the home half to make things interesting before
Santiago got a fly out to end the game.
Reliever Marcus Guadarrama
helped Mitchell get back into the game after the rough start. He tossed
3.0 innings of one-hit ball and kept MacMurray off the scoreboard in
the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Mitchell (5-0 overall) will next play Moravian College on Thursday, March 10 at 2 p.m. in Port Charlotte, Fla.
