RWU BASEBALL SQUEEZES OUT WIN OVER FRAMINGHAM STATE

Box Score
NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Senior Sam Bennett (Andover, Mass.) tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the Roger Williams University baseball team to a 2-1 victory over the Framingham State University Rams this afternoon in non-conference action at the New England Baseball Complex.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 6-9 on the season, while the Rams are now 8-10.

Bennett carried a no hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning before Framingham State senior Kyle Piliski (Bristol, Conn.) laced a double to leftfield.  Bennett allowed just the one hit in seven innings of work while striking out seven and walking just two.  Junior Ryan Havunen (Lincoln, RI) earned the save tossing a scoreless ninth.

Rams starter junior Matt Fogarty (Millis, Mass.), who took the loss, was equally impressive in rainy conditions going four innings and allowing an unearned run on one hit with five walks and four strikeouts.  Freshman Michael Tucci (Danbury, Conn.) tossed two innings of relief and allowed one run on three hits, while senior Chris Riga (Westfield, Mass.) and junior Kevin Connelly (Bolton, Mass.) combined to toss three innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts.

The Hawks got on the board first in the top of the fourth.  Sophomore Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) walked and moved to third on a wild pitch and a pass ball.  After another walk, junior Anthony Dominguez (Chester, NJ) singled to right plating Stone.

A single run in the sixth on a bunt by sophomore Tyler Rondeau (Bourne, Mass.) with runners on second and third pushed the Hawks lead to 2-0.

The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning off the Hawks bullpen.  Senior Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) doubled down the leftfield line and scored on a base hit to right by sophomore Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.).

The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they face Westfield State in a MASCAC doubleheader at NEBC beginning at 12 p.m., while the Hawks travel to Babson on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
