Bigelow Center Activities and Events for the week of May 6, 2019

Fairfield, Connecticut - Caregiver Series continues on Tuesday, May 7th at noon, Katie Vanovitch of Senior Helpers
will present the third in our series of Caregiver Support Talks. She’ll focus on what you need to
know to care for your loved one. It’s most important to recognize your loved one’s need for
dignity and self respect as you care for him or her, especially when dealing with matters of
personal hygiene. It’s very hard to depend on another to help perform the most personal and
basic tasks of daily life. It can also be difficult for the new caregiver to undertake these tasks for
a loved one. When a friend or family member becomes disabled, the inclination of the caregiver

Thursday Nights are going strong! Sponsored by the Friends of the Bigelow Center. Join us

May 9th: Back by popular demand! Beloved author Paul Ferrante presents his new book, 30
Minutes in Memphis. When fifteen year-old Marnie Culpeper learns the Beatles are coming to
her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee in the summer of 1966, she’s in heaven. But her
devotion to the four mop tops from Liverpool is put to the test when she discovers that someone
wants to make sure the Beatles’ Memphis concert is their last. Paul Ferrante is an English
teacher, longtime storyteller, baseball aficionado, a contributor to Sports Collector’s Digest, and
author of the T.J. Jackson mystery novels.

Flowers for Emotional Health and Well-being: Kelly Grich from Butternut Gardens presents
a lunch and learn program. Friday May 24th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m Relax with Flowers!
Explore the science of flowers and people, discover the benefits of flowers and learn the
meaning of colors. The program includes hands-on arranging of cut flowers in a vase design you
take home. Lunch sponsored by Griswold Homecare. Cost: $20. Registration required. Click

Sleeping Habits as We Age will be the subject of a free talk sponsored by Visiting Angels of
Fairfield on Wednesday, May 8th at 10:00 a.m.

SENIOR AND DISABLED TAX RELIEF
Application Period ends Monday, May 15, 2019
State and local laws provide real property tax relief programs for Fairfield residents who are age
65 and over or totally disabled and whose annual incomes and assets are within specified limits.
These programs are designed to help seniors and people with disabilities remain in their homes
