Nichols Gives First Loss To Women’s Tennis

DUDLEY, Mass. — The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 3-6 to Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.

Jordan Knowles/Johanna Schroeder began the

day with an 8-2 win over Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) and Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) at #3 doubles, followed by an 8-3 victory by Kelley Carlin/Antonia Carrero against Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) at #2. Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) got the Hawks on the board with a hard-fought 8-7 (7-5) win at #1 Kara Stankewitz/IsaBella Winter, making it 2-1 in Nichols' favor going into singles.

 
At singles, Schroeder handed DiCesare a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the #4 flight, with Stankewitz then bringing the Bison one win away from victory by taking her #2 match 6-4, 6-1 against Cahoon. Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) kept RWU in the match with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Knowles at #5, but Nichols would claim the match with a 7-5, 6-0 win by Camila Magrin over Santoro at #6.

 
Concluding the day were a 6-4, 7-5 win by Carrero over Place at #1 and Ferraro defeating Winter 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 at #3.
