Robbins Nets Hat Trick As Women’s Soccer Shuts Out UMass-Dartmouth

BRISTOL, R.I. – Bianca Robbins recorded her second hat trick of the season to lift the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team past UMass-Dartmouth, 3-0, on Thursday evening at Bayside Field. Robbins' third multi-goal performance of the season, and fourth of her career, backed a combined shutout that was primarily handled by Morgan McCutcheon (Danbury, Conn.).

With the win, the Hawks get back in the win

column and improve to 8-4-0 (2-1-0 CCC) on the season. Meanwhile the Corsairs drop to 1-7-1 (0-3-0 LEC) on the campaign.

For Robbins, her three-goal showing is the second best of her career after she netted a quartet of goals against Rhode Island College earlier in the season. She added to her conference-leading scoring total, and she has now found the back of the net 12 times on the season including four game-winners.

RWU went with a timeshare in goal with McCutcheon handling a lions share of the duties in net on this evening playing 80:21 and making five saves as she improved to 6-2-0 on the season. Morgan Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) handled the final 9:39 and did not face a shot on goal. The shutout by the Hawks was their seventh victory of the year where they had a clean sheet.

On the other side, Katherine Hubbard (Haverhill, Mass.) faced eight shots on frame and made five saves but allowed three goals and fell to 1-2-1 on the year.

How It Happened
The first half was largely a defensive struggle, but the Hawks did break through once in the 23rd minute thanks to Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.). She made a strong defensive play to force a turnover on the right side of the field from about 30 yards away. She brought the ball towards the middle of the pitch and gained a step on a second defender at the top of the 18-yard box. She proceeded to take a left-footed shot from about 12 yards out and into the lower right corner of the net for her tenth goal of the season, but she was only just getting started.

In the box score, Roger Williams held the advantage in scoring chances as they had more shots, 8-5, shots on goal, 5-3, and corner kicks, 2-1.

The second half was much of the same as a defensive battle with the exception of a one and a half minute stretch of play that saw the Hawks score twice. The first came in the 69th minute as Sammy Jost (Ringwood, N.J.) controlled the ball on the left side of the field. The Corsairs defense over committed to that side of the pitch allowing Jost to send a through pass to a wide-open Robbins from straight away. Without a defender within five yards of her, Robbins had an easy one-on-one chance against the keeper from straight away. Katherine Hubbard (Haverhill, Mass.) came out to try and make a play, but Robbins made a move to get past her and then shot the ball into the right side of the net for her second score of the contest.

Robbins completed her hat trick a couple minutes later in the 71st minute. Kelly Yadoff (Wycoff, N.J.) sent a lead pass up field that Hubbard came out of the 18-yard box to try to make a play on, but she miscalculated her odds to get the ball and Rachel Oster (Scituate, R.I.) flew in to keep the RWU attack alive. This left just one defender between Oster and the net and while the defender did prevent a goal, she did trip up Oster in the box gifting the Hawks a penalty kick. They turned to Robbins, and she took advantage by going to the low right side for the score, her 12th of the season.

Overall, Roger Williams outshot UMD, 16-11, held the edge in shots on goal, 8-5, and took more corner kicks, 7-1.
