Regiane Silva Nets Game-Winner Against UMass Dartmouth



DANBURY, CONN. - Freshman Regiane Silva (Danbury, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal and what proved to be the game-winner as Western Connecticut State University edged visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in Little East Conference field hockey action at the Westside Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Silva led all players with five shot attempts on

the night and WestConn finished with a 12-8 advantage against the Corsairs.  Coming into tonight's contest, she had just three shot attempts in eight games.

WestConn, now 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference, moved up to sixth place in the LEC at the time of this release.  The top eight teams in the conference advance to the LEC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, November 10.

The WestConn defense, headed by junior Samantha Dultz (Belvidere, N.J.) played exceptionally well in the back third.  Just five of UMass Dartmouth's attempts reached WestConn cage keeper Kayla Hnasko (Raritan, N.J.).

Freshman Alyssa McDonough (Hill, N.H.) also made five saves for the Corsairs, which drop to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the league.

WestConn continues its Homecoming Week home stand this Saturday, October 9 when it plays host to Plymouth State University.  Game time is slated for 11 am.

UMass Dartmouth welcome Framingham State University on Saturday, also for an 11 am tilt.
