NEWPORT, R.I. - A goal with seventy seconds left in
the game by Salve Regina gave the Seahawks a 2-1 victory over Coast
Guard in non-conference action.
With the loss the Bears fall to 6-7 on the season while Salve Regina improves to 6-8.
The majority of the first half saw a zero, zero tie until the final five minutes of the period.
The Seahawks started the scoring in 41st minute when freshman Abby
McMackin scored an unassisted goal to give Salve Regina a 1-0 lead.
The Bears did not allow the Seahawks lead to last long as just over two minutes later senior Caroline Eastman took a pass from fellow senior Taylor Peace and netted her first goal of the season.
The game look destined for overtime until sophomore Leah Siefring
found sophomore Lea Adams at the top of the Coast Guard penalty box.
Adams ripped a shot into the left corner of the net for her second goal
over the year at the 88:10 mark.
Freshman Rachel Boohar (5-7) made eight saves on 18 shots, 10 on goal. Boohar is fifth in the NEWMAC with 65 saves on the season.
Freshman Carly Pala and sophomore Morgan McBrier combined in goal
making three saves on 11 shots, four on goal. Pala earned the victory as
she was in net when the Seahawks scored the game winner.
Coast Guard returns to action on Tuesday, October 20, when they host Wheaton in NEWMAC action. Kickoff is 7:00 pm.
