ANCHORWOMEN SPLIT AT WHEATON TRI

North Easton, Mass.—Senior outside hitter Kelsey Lace (Glendale, RI) hit .361 and led the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team with 38 kills and 30 digs as the Anchorwomen split a tri-match hosted by Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
 
Lace added four blocks and a pair of aces for the Anchorwomen (16-8). Senior outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) hit .211, notched 20 kills and made 18 digs. Freshman setter Cassia Spivey (East Providence, RI) handed out 61 assists and chipped in with 21 digs.

RIC got revenge for a 3-0 setback to Wheaton (10-12) in the Anchorwomen's opener on Sept. 2 by returning the favor with a shutout victory (25-21, 25-21, 25-19). Lace hit .444 with 19 kills and 10 digs. Malboeuf hit .387 to go along with 12 kills and nine digs. Spivey posted a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs.
 
The Anchorwomen and Eastern Connecticut (11-11) met in a non-conference matchup, which served as a preview to the two clubs' upcoming league tilt on Oct. 27. RIC won the first set, 25-22, before the Warriors evened the match with a 25-16 win in the second stanza. RIC won in the third set, 25-20, and ECSU responded with a 25-22 win in the fourth frame. The Warriors held off RIC, 15-11, in the decisive fifth set.
 
Lace had 19 kills and 16 digs. Freshman outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) contributed seven kills and 12 digs. Spivey dished out 31 assists and chipped in with 11 digs.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against UMass Boston on Wednesday, Oct. 21 (7 p.m.).
