Women’s Crew Places Second in Champ Eight, Third in Champ Four to Conclude HOCR Racing

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown University women's crew placed second in the women's championship eight event and finished third in the women's championship four race to conclude racing at the 51st Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday on the Charles River.

The Bears' eight came in second out of 32 entries in event 49 with a time of 16:23.350, finishing 24.720 seconds behind race winner California (15:58.626). Brown crossed the finish with a 0.826-second margin over third-place Virginia (16:24.176).

Princeton (16:29.785) finished fourth in the race, and Yale (16:40.069) came in fifth. US Rowing scratched its entry in the event.

In event 47, Brown's four came in third overall and placed first among collegiate entries behind a time of 18:05.230 out of 19 total boats. The Bears finished 31.440 seconds behind the first-place boat from US Rowing (17:33.793) and 2.840 seconds behind second-place New York Athletic Club (18:02.389).

The Bears topped fourth-place Virginia (18:24.074) with an 18.840-second margin. Coco Schoeller '15 rowed with US Rowing's entry in the race.

Last year, Brown came in fifth in the championship four, third among collegiate entries, and placed sixth, third among US collegiate boats, in the championship eight.

On day one at the Head of the Charles on Saturday, Brown won the women's club eight event for the second straight year in a field of 38 boats while the Bears' A and B entries in the women's alumnae eight event finished fifth and 10th respectively in a field of 48 entries.

Next, Brown will compete at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J., on Sunday Nov. 1 to wrap up its fall season.
