PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The newly formed National Collegiate Women’s Varsity
Rugby Association (NCWVRA) voted to hold the first ever Women's Rugby
Varsity National Tournament at Brown University in November of 2015.
Brown will host the national semifinal games on Friday, November 20, and
the national championship game on Sunday, November 22, with all
contests being played at Marvel Field located on 401 Elmgrove Avenue in
Providence, R.I.
“I could not be more grateful to the student-athletes, coaches and
administrators who have worked so hard the past few years in expanding
and promoting NCAA Varsity Women’s Rugby,” said the head of the NCWVRA,
Jack McDonald. “A national tournament experience is the dream of every
NCAA student-athlete, coach and fan and I am thrilled that we now will
be able to provide this to all. Special thanks to Brown University and
all NCWVRA Administrators for their diligence in planning this historic
national championship tournament.”
“We are excited to serve as the host of the first national
championship,” said Brown Athletic Director Jack Hayes. “The growth of
women’s rugby has been an exciting process and Brown is proud to play an
important role.”
The tournament committee will finalize the details of the national tournament over the coming weeks.
Current NCWVRA members include: AIC, Army, Bowdoin, Brown, Central
Washington, Dartmouth, Davenport, Dowling College, Eastern Illinois,
Harvard, Life, LIU Post, Molloy, University of New England, Norwich,
Notre Dame College, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and West Chester.
Tournament Dates:
Saturday, November 14 – Quarterfinals (hosted by the higher seeds)
Friday, November 20 – Semifinals (at Brown University)
Sunday, November 22 – Championship (at Brown University)
