LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Brown University softball student-athletes Gina Chieffallo '17, Lauren Hanna '17, Grayson Metzger '18, and Jessica Pinkney
'18 have earned 2014-15 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
To be eligible for NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors,
student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
Through last spring, Chieffallo (Eynon, Pa.), Hanna (Medford, Mass.),
Metzger (Severna Park, Md.), and Pinkney (Raleigh, N.C.) recorded
cumulative GPAs of 3.70, 3.69, 3.50, and 4.00 respectively.
In 2015, Hanna ranked second on Brown in batting average (.306), hits
(30), and runs (18) while Metzger tied for the team lead with three
home runs, Chieffallo pitched in two games for the Bears, and Pinkney
appeared in two contests.
On Tuesday, the NFCA announced that 5,493 softball players across
seven membership divisions earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete
honors for the 2014-15 academic year.
NCAA Division I, with 1,554 honorees, had the most student-athletes
with a 3.5 GPA or higher, while 1,018 in Division III earned
recognition, followed by 833 Division II student-athletes. High school
weighted and high school un-weighted posted 691 and 627 honorees apiece.
NAIA amassed 410 recipients and junior college totaled 360.
