SHERAN WINS PLAYOFF TO CAPTURE MEDALIST HONORS AND LEAD RIC TO WESTFIELD STATE INVITATIONAL CROWN

Westfield, Mass.--Rhode Island College freshman Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, MA) won a sudden death playoff to win the 2015 Westfield State Invitational Golf Tournament played at Tekoa Country Club on Thursday afternoon.
 
Sheran and Albertus Magnus College’s Aaron Macchia each carded rounds of 2-over par 73, but Sheran dropped a two-foot par putt on the 17th hole, the first sudden-death playoff hole, to earn medalist honors.
 
RIC finished first (10 teams) with a team score of 296 as all five golfers carded scores in the 70's.

Senior Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) and junior Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI) tied for second with a score of 74. Sophomore Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) tied for fifth with a score of 75.
 
Senior Pete Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) tied for ninth with a score of 79.
 
There were 48 golfers in the 10-team field.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2015 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 17-18.
