Providence, R.I.--The
Rhode Island College women’s tennis team used a complete team effort
secure their ninth straight victory and fifth shutout as they
defeated Worcester State, 9-0, in Little East Conference action
played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Doubles action saw the RIC (9-1, 5-0
LEC) tandem of sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and
junior partner Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) defeat WSU (5-7,
3-4 LEC) junior Shelby Jankins (West Brookfield, MA) and
senior Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT), 8-2, at the No. 1
pairing.

No. 2 doubles saw senior Sadie
Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and junior Jorgie
Martin
(Greenville, RI) best WSU’s sophomore pairing of Rachel Green
(Worcester, RI) and Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, MA), 8-0. |

RIC earned the doubles sweep with
senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Laura
Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) topping sophomore Alexis Silk
(Greenfield, MA) and sophomore Olivia Budney (Webster, MA),
8-3.

Reilly topped Jankins (6-0, 6-4) at
the No. 1 flight, while Campanella earned the victory over Shepard
(6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 singles.

No. 3 singles saw Reddy defeat
Khafaga (6-1, 6-0) with Cannata besting Green (6-2, 6-1) at the No.
4 flight.

|
Nastasi topped Budney (6-2, 6-0) at
the No. 5 flight, while Martin defeated freshman Valerie Tocco
(Pelham, NH) (4-6, 6-1, 10-1) at No. 6 singles to complete the
sweep for the Anchorwomen.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island
College will continue Little East Conference action at home against
Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 10 (1 p.m.).
