APICE AND LYNCH COMBINE TO LEAD RIC PAST SPRINGFIELD, 15-6

Providence, R.I.—Sophomore right fielder Edward Apice (North Kingstown, RI) and junior first baseman TJ Lynch (North Kingstown, RI) combined for 10 RBI as Rhode Island College cruised past Springfield, 15-6, at Anchorman Field on Monday afternoon.
 
Apice went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, six RBI and a homer, while Lynch went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, four RBI a triple and a homer, to lead the Anchormen (11-15-2).
 
The Pride (10-18-1) jumped out to an early, 2-0, lead in the top of the first when freshman shortstop Evan Moore (Portsmouth, RI) singled and then scored on a two-out homer by junior first baseman Mike Jamieson (New Fairfield, CT).

The Anchormen tied the game up in the bottom of the second when junior left fielder Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) singled and Apice was hit by a pitch. The duo moved up to second and third after a wild pitch and scored on freshman catcher Jake Petrin’s (Lincoln, RI) two-out, two-run single.
 
In the third, the visitors tacked on three runs to go up by three, 5-2. With the bases loaded and no one out, senior designated hitter Corey Wilcox (Uncasville, CT) hit a sacrifice fly to bring in one. The Pride brought in two more, one on ground ball that resulted in a double play and another on an Anchorman error.
 
RIC pulled within a run, 5-4, in the third with a two-run double by Apice that brought in Barry and Lynch.
 
SC sophomore third baseman Kyle Allen (Westerly, RI) tripled and scored on senior left fielder Colin King’s (Berlin, CT) RBI single in the fourth.

The hosts used a six-run fifth inning to jump out to a 10-6 lead. Sophomore second baseman Shaun Vigeant (Coventry, RI) singled and classmate center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI) walked to get the rally started. Lynch smacked an RBI single, Douglas scored on an error, Apice knocked in a pair with an RBI single and junior third baseman Scott Linnane (North Kingstown, RI) ripped a two-run homer in the frame.
 
Apice helped put the game out of reach with a two-run bomb, after a Lynch triple, in the sixth. Lynch added a three-run homer in the seventh to close out the game’s offense.
 
RIC freshman reliever Justin Conti (Lincoln, RI) picked up his first collegiate win (1-0), allowing one run on three hits in two innings of work. Senior Kory Lawrence (Woonsocket, RI) and junior Jake Roy (Seekonk, MA) hurled four innings of scoreless relief to close out the game.
 
Jamieson went 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a homer for the Pride. Sophomore Jack Weinberger (Sunapee, NH) took the loss (0-3), allowing nine runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 19 (3:30 p.m.).
