HEIDEL AND BRADLEY NOTCH HAT TRICKS IN, 22-9, LOSS TO UMASS DARTMOUTH

North Dartmouth, Mass.--UMass Dartmouth used a pair of 11-goal halves to race to a 22-9 victory over Rhode Island College in Little East Conference women’s lacrosse action played at Cressy Field on Tuesday night.
 
The Corsairs (7-5, 3-1 LEC) opened a 1-0 lead with a goal by junior attacker Catrina Longo (Billerica, MA) just two minutes into the game. RIC (4-7, 0-4 LEC) knotted the game following an unassisted tally by junior midfielder Betsy Heidel (Warwick, RI), but the Corsairs would take control down the stretch, outscoring the Anchorwomen, 10-5, over the remainder of the half to enter the break with an 11-6 lead.
 
RIC freshman goalie Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) stopped 11 shots in the first half with her counterpart, freshman Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, MA), turning aside three in the half.

The Corsairs blasted open a close game, rattling off the first five goals of the half to make the score 16-6 with 20:41 remaining in the game. The Anchorwomen scored three of the next five goals before the Corsairs finished the half on a 4-0 run to give the game its 22-9 final.
 
Eaton finished with 19 saves in the loss (4-7), with Burchill stopping three in the victory (7-5).
 
Longo led all scorers with five goals and one assist for six points. Senior attacker Colleen Kane (Arlington, MA), sophomore midfielder Erin Kish (Littleton, MA) and sophomore defender Leah Douty (Framingham, MA) each scored four goals in the victory.
 
Heidel and freshman attacker Tess Bradley (Tiverton, RI) led the Anchorwomen attack with three goals apiece.
 
UMD held a 55-14 advantage in shots, 23-9 edge in draw controls, 39-17 advantage in ground balls and were plus-seven in turnovers.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Worcester State on Thursday, April 21 (6:30 p.m.).
