With the win the Bears improve to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play while the Buccaneers fall to 5-11 on the season and 1-5 in the conference.
Freshman Anthony Wyler had his second hat trick in as many games scoring three goals and adding
one assist. In the past two games alone he has tallied seven goals and one assist. Senior Louis DePaolis and freshman Jack Pope both had three goals and one assist as well. DePaolis is now third in the NEWMAC with 30 goals on the year. Senior Justin Huemme added two goals and one assist.
Senior Reed McLean led Mass. Maritime wit three goals while freshman Cody Livermore had two goals and two assists. Freshman Ted Powers had a goal and two assists while junior Steve Anderson had two assists.
The Buccaneers scored three unanswered goals at the end of the first quarter to take an early 4-3 lead before both teams notched two goals in the second period making the halftime score 6-5 in favor of Mass. Maritime.
Coast Guard came out in the second half and dominated outscoring the Buccaneers 4-1 in the third quarter including the eventual game winner from junior Blaise Curtis.
The Bears defense buckled down in the final quarter holding Mass. Maritime to one goal as Coast Guard added three insurance tallies giving them the 12-8 victory.
Freshman Trey Johnson (9-4) made six saves and allowed eight goals. Johnson's goals-against average is still top in the conference at 7.01 and is currently 17th in the nation. He also made is 100th save of the season.
Senior James Klose (4-11) made 11 saves while giving up 12 goals on 23 shots faced. Klose is third in the NEWMAC with 154 saves on the season.
The Bears defense, with another game of double digit caused turnovers (11), has moved into the top 10 in the nation in the category. They are sitting at ninth with 12.64 caused turnovers per game and a NEWMAC leading 188 on the season.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday for their final game of the season, when they travel to Babson for a critical NEWMAC game. Game time is 1:00 pm.
