PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Carmen Rosas scored a team-high four goals to help Brown University women's water polo hold a lead for the majority of the game, but Brown dropped a 9-8 decision to No. 18 Harvard University on Wednesday night at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

The Bears (9-20, 1-3 CWPA) did not trail until the visiting Crimson (20-7, 1-3 CWPA) pulled ahead 9-8 with 50 seconds remaining. Brown's Class of 2016 remains 6-2 vs. Harvard since the 2013 season.

Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) netted three of the Bears' four goals in the second half while senior Olivia
Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) registered two goals and an assist. Junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) notched team highs with four assists and three steals.

Sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted a goal and an assist, freshman McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) added a goal, and senior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.) and freshman Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) each tallied one assist.

In net, sophomore goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made 10 saves.

The Bears blanked the nationally-ranked Crimson in the first quarter, taking a 3-0 lead through one. Santiago initiated the scoring with a no-look turnaround shot from two meters off a pass from Dodd. Rosas made the score 2-0 with a turnaround shot on the inside, and Heilman closed the frame's scoring with a goal from the right wing on a 6-on-5.

After Harvard pulled within 3-1, Miller netted a goal from straight on off a feed from Kolokotronis during another power play. The Crimson scored twice in the quarter's final 2:30, including on a penalty shot, to pull within 4-3 at the break.

Exactly one minute into the third quarter, Santiago found the back of the net on another 6-on-5 with an assist from Kolokotronis. The Crimson cut its deficit to 5-4, but Rosas put the Bears up 6-4 with a right wing shot on the power play. The visitors answered again, but Rosas responded with a goal in transition to stake Brown to a 7-5 edge entering the fourth quarter.

Rosas scored on a 1-on-1 with the goalie off a Kolokotronis pass in between a pair of Harvard 5-meter penalty shot goals to keep Brown up 8-7 with 4:38 to go. The Crimson tied the game with 3:01 to play and went ahead with 50 seconds remaining.

Next, Brown plays a trio of CWPA games on the campus of Princeton over the weekend to conclude the varsity portion of its regular season, competing against No. 13 Indiana (Sat., 10 a.m.), the host No. 15 Tigers (Sat., 2 p.m.), and No. 6 Michigan (Sun., 2:20 p.m.).
