Wesleyan University Baseball Defeated By Little Three Rival Williams, 9-2

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Wesleyan University baseball team hosted Little Three Rival Williams College on Friday afternoon at Dresser Diamond, and fell to the Ephs by a score of 9-2.

RECORDS
Wesleyan: 15-6, 2-2 NESCAC West
Williams: 7-13, 3-4 NESCAC West

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Peter Rantz ’16 got the start for the Cardinals, and was able to put the visitors down in order to open up the game.
  • Wesleyan had chances in the bottom of the first to get a run home as Andrew Keith ’19 opened the game with a leadoff single, and advanced to second on an error. Ephs starting pitcher Luke Rodino then retired the next two batters before plunking Matt Jeye ’18 to put runners on first and second. Rodino was then able to get Marco Baratta ’16 to ground out to first to end the threat.
  • The Ephs were able to get to Rantz in the bottom of the second as they put up three runs in the inning. Jackson Parese and Alex Panstar each had RBI hits in the inning, which saw seven Williams batters come to the plate.
  • Williams scored again in the top of the third on an Adam Dulsky RBI single to give the visitors a four run advantage.
  • Rodino kept the Cardinals’ bats at ease until the bottom of the fourth when Wesleyan took advantage of two Williams errors to get a run across the plate. That brought the Cardinals to within 3, at 4-1.
  • The Ephs would get the run back in the top of the sixth as David Rosas doubled home Nathan Michalski to give Williams the 5-1 advantage.
  • Wesleyan put together another small rally in the bottom of the seventh, sending nine men to the plate. They only mustered one run however, as Will O’Sullivan, who made a head’s up base-running play earlier in the inning, swiping third on a pickoff attempt at first base, was able to score on a wild pitch.
  • Williams put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth, scoring four runs without registering a hit. They were helped by two errors, two HBP, and two walks in the inning.
  • The Cardinals put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to rally as they fell to Williams, 9-2.
