Baseball Falls To Concordia, 12-7

LANATA, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team lost to Concordia (N.Y.), 12-7, in a non-conference matchup at the Santaluces Athletic Complex in Lanata, Fla. With the loss, the Owls drop to 3-7 on the year while Concordia improves to 4-7 on the year.

Jim Palmer (Milford, Conn.) was 4-for-5 with a double, stolen base, RBI and run scored while Nolan Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with a double. Cameron O'Toole (Grafton, Mass.) had an RBI double while John Spoto (Stamford, Conn.) had a triple. On the mound, Mike Ferrett (Hamden, Conn.) tossed 2 2/3 of scoreless, one-hit baseball with two strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Owls grabbed an early lead when Nick Lamberti's (East Haven, Conn.) ground-out to short scored Palmer with the game's first.
  • The Owls' lead was short lived as Concordia tacked on four runs in the bottom half of the inning before scoring three more in the second to jump out to a 7-1 lead.
  • In the fourth, Cloutier drove in Connor Redahan (Greenwich, Conn.) and Tyler Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) with a double before scoring on Spoto's triple to cut Concordia's lead to 7-5.
  • Concordia pushed their lead to 12-5 with a run in the fifth and four more in the bottom of the sixth.
  • In the seventh, Anthony Zambito (Ridgewood, N.J.) worked a one-out walk and stole second to move into scoring position before moving to third on Lamberti's ground-out to the right side. O'Toole then punched him home with a double.
  • In the eighth, Redahan was hit by a pitch before Cloutier delivered his second hit of the day. After Spoto lined out for the second out the inning, Palmer delivered a two-out single to load the bases before Zambito drew a walk and forced Redahan in.
NOTES
  • Palmer's four-hit day was his first of the season and the third of the year for the Owls after Criscuolo posted two earlier this year.
  • With his four-hit outing, Palmer has now hit safely in seven-straight games.
  • Palmer's batting average jumped from .290 to .361 with his 4-for-5 day.
  • Redahan's single in the second inning brings his team-leading hitting streak to eight games. Redahan and Criscuolo are tied for the team-lead with eight consecutive games of reaching base safely.
  • With two hits in the Owls' game against Concordia, Cloutier now leads Southern with five multiple-hit games. Cloutier is now hitting .429 (12-28) for the season.
  • Zambito's run scored was his team-leading 13th of the season.
