NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team fell 17-8 to NYIT. The Bears improve to 2-0 on the year while the Owls fall to 0-3 overall.
Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) scored five goals, had one assist and four draw controls in the game. Morgan Chase (Windsor, Conn.) tallied one goal, two assists and picked up two ground balls.
FIRST HALF
- The Bears scored on a fast break in the first minute of the game and went on to score eight unanswered goals. Freshman Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) scored the Owls first goal at the 16:05 mark assisted by Cozzolino. The Owls ended the half down 12-2.
SECOND HALF
- The Bears opened the scoring in the second half to bring their lead to 11, however the Owls countered with five unanswered goals to come within six of NYIT.
- NYIT scored three goals in the final five minutes of play to seal the win over Southern.
FACTS
- Senior Brianna Grande (West Hartford, Conn.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
- Grande also registered a season-high seven draw controls.The last time she had seven draw control was on April 25, 2018 against Assumption.
- Cozzolino scored four goals for her seventeen hat-trick of her career and eighth four-plus goal game.
UP NEXT
The Owls will head to North Andover, Mass. On March 9 to face Merrimack College for a 12 p.m. face off.
