LEXINGTON, S.C.—The Roger Williams Baseball team was defeated against Case Western Reserve 8-4 on a Thursday afternoon at Lexington County Stadium.
Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) led off for the Hawks singling to left field. Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) laid down a sacrifice bunt putting Gulino at second. Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) grounded out to second base but advanced Gulino to third. Keaton Stankowski (New Albany, Ohio), the pitcher for the Spartans, threw a wild pitch causing Gulino to score for the first run of the game.
The Spartans responded with two RBI singles to put them up one run in the top of the second (2-1).
In the bottom of the second, Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) led off and tripled to the left center gap. Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) came up after him and hit a single through the right side plating Camner. After a throwing error by the Spartan's pitcher, Tyler Brett (Hebron, Conn.) was due up next and singled to right center bringing in Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) and Dominguez to take back the lead 4-2.
It was the fourth inning for CWR that put them ahead 6-4. One double and four singles brought in four runs for the Spartans.
It wasn't until the top of the eighth that the Spartans earned two more runs by a home run from Samuel Neal (Smithfield, Va.) and an RBI double by Jake Ryan (Chatham, Ill.) to leave the score at 8-4.
Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.), Matt Vernacatola (Berlin, Conn.), and Chris Crawford (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) all took a turn on the mound allowing a collective 11 hits, 8 runs, 8 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
