Geurtsen and junior Riley McNulty had six points each in the victory. Geurtsen scored a game-high five goals and added one assist while McNulty tallied four goals and two assists. Senior Jack Pope added two goals and sophomores Matty Johnson and Iorio chipped in with a goal each. Iorio added six assists, breaking the CGA record for most assists in a game, which was previously at 4.
Sophomore Connor Smith led the Pilgrims with two goals. Austin Frankel, Reed Foster, and Charles
Hacking all added a goal each for New England College.
Pope put the Bears on the board first at 13:55 on a man-up opportunity that sparked a six goal run, extending through the first quarter, including a hat trick from Geurtsen. Smith scored for the Pilgrims at 2:59 but the Bears finished the first quarter with a 6-1 advantage.
McNulty, Geurtsen, and Pope all struck again in the second quarter, as they all scored one goal each to shut out the Pilgrims and take a 9-1 lead heading into halftime.
The Bears outscored the Pilgrims, 3-1 in the third quarter, with two from Geurtsen and McNulty and one coming from Johnson as the Bears extended their lead to 12-2.
The Pilgrims opened the fourth quarter with a goal at 12:55 from Frankel, to trail 12-3. Iorio scored on a man-up opportunity at 3:48. The Pilgrims scored the final two goals of the game but the Bears finished with the 13-5 final.
Senior goalkeeper Trey Johnson made four saves in the victory during his 45 mins of play. Junior Charles McAllister and sophomore Josh Ordonez also saw action in the fourth quarter of the Bears victory. The Pilgrims senior goalkeeper William Platt made 16 saves in the loss.
Coast Guard held the advantage in shots, 43-23 and won 13 of 22 faceoffs.
The Bears are back in action at home on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 PM when they host Maritime (NY).
