Washington, D.C.—Senior second baseman Emma Simmons (Saunderstown, RI)
went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and a pair of doubles as the
Rhode Island College softball team opened the 2019 season with an 11-1
(five innings) win at Gallaudet on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sophomore right fielder Erica Fluskey (Trumbull, CT) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple. Senior third baseman Cristin Chiaverini (Pawtucket, RI) went 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a double.

• Senior pitcher Briana Gough (West Warwick, RI) allowed just one run on three hits to go along with three strikeouts in four innings of work to earn the win (1-0). Freshman Reilly Clancy (Narragansett, RI) hurled one inning of scoreless relief.
• A pair of Gallaudet errors in the top
of the first staked the visitors to a 3-0 lead. After surrendering a run
in the bottom of the first, RIC scored three in the second, four in the
third and one in the fifth to end the game early.
• The hosts made three errors in the game, while the Anchorwomen played flawless defense. RIC pounded out 10 hits in the win.
