Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden, Conn.) notched a hat-trick and five draw controls in the loss. Brianna Grande (West Hartford, Conn.) scored the second goal of her career along with three draw controls. Stephanie Seymour (North Branford, Conn.) tallied a goal and two draw controls.
Laura Morton (Somers, Conn.) started the game, tallied six saves and allowed 14 goals in the first half. Alexandra Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) had six saves in relief, had a .429 save percentage and allowed 8 goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chargers offense wasted no time scoring two goals in the first three minutes of play. However, the Owls captains answered with two goals from Cozzolino and one from Grande cutting the New Haven's lead down to one, 4-3.
- New Haven tallied nine unanswered goals to take a commanding ten goal lead at the 6:25 mark. The Owls were able to put in two more goals before the half ended making the score 14-5.
- The Owls were held scoreless through most of the second half until Karlie Rowe scored a goal with one-minute remaining in the game.
FACTS
- Brianna Grande scored the second goal of her collegiate career, the first came on March 3, 2019 against NYIT.
- Cozzolino tallied the eighteenth hat-trick of her career and her third of the season. She leads the Owls with 13 goals and three assists through five games.
- With one goal Rowe increases her goal total to eight on the season while teammate Stephanie Seymour brings her goal total to three on the year.
