Men’s Lacrosse Takes Victory Over Lasell

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse Team beat Lasell College this Wednesday afternoon, 9-5, despite an earlier start time due to cold weather.

After a scoreless eight minutes of play, the Hawks gained a three-goal lead in the first period. Brandon Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and Jaried Grier both scored goals within 40 seconds of one another, followed with a pass from Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) to Gabe Reale (Fairfield, Conn.) to put the score at 3-0 with 3:36 left in the quarter.

Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) was the first to find the back of the net for the Lasers with an unassisted goal to put Lasell on the board. Two minutes later, Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) scored an unassisted goal for Lasell's second goal of the period.

With 12 seconds remaining in the first, Mullane passed the ball to Bova from behind the net to log another goal for RWU and put the score at 4-2 going into the second.

Taking an assist from Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.), Mullane fell to the ground as he scored the only goal of the second period to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead with about 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Despite seven shots from the Lasers, Lasell could not find the back of the net.

Two minutes into the third period, Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) picked up a ground ball and scored for the Lasers. Two minutes later, Susi scored unassisted for Lasell to put the score at 3-6.  Both teams remained scoreless for the next five minutes until Bova logged an unassisted goal for the Hawks.

Then with just under three minutes left in the third, Susi made his way through RWU's defense and scored an unassisted to bring the score to 4-7. With less than 40 seconds remaining in the third period, Mullane took an assist from Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.) to give the Hawks their biggest lead of the game thus far at 8-4 going into the final period.

Grier increased RWU's lead with an assist from Sebastian Suarez (West Hartford, Conn.) to log his second goal of the game two minutes into the fourth period. Later, with a long shot, Susi scored his third unassisted goal for the Lasers with less than eight minutes remaining in the game to put the score at 5-9.
