Softball Falls to Bemidji, Truman

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University softball squad fell to Bemidji State University, 4-0 and Truman State University, 12-0 (5 innings) at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex. The Owls drop to 1-7 overall, while the Beavers improve to 8-4 and the Bulldogs improve to 8-1.

Freshman Liz DeRosa (Hudson, N.H.) brought the offense for the Owls as she led the team going 3-for-5 on the day.

AGAINST BEMIDJI

  • The game went scoreless through three innings, but it was Bemidji who struck first in the fourth inning when they scored off a double to make it 1-0.
  • The Beavers added three more fifth inning runs to cap off the scoring.
  • Bemidji's back-to-back scoring innings proved to be the difference-maker as they captured the 4-0 victory.

FACTS
  • Lener and DeRosa both went 2-for-3 trying to generate offense for the Owls.
  • Jazmyn Martinez (Middletown, N.Y.) pitched a complete seven innings with nine strikeouts in 33 batters faced.

AGAINST TRUMAN
  • Truman opened the scoring with three first inning runs before adding another in the third, 4-0.
  • The Bulldogs added three more runs in the fourth inning off a two RBI double and one off a tag up.
  • Truman exploded again in the fifth inning where they scored five runs off four hits (1 double, three singles), which extended their lead to 12.
  • Hot bats through five innings proved to be the determining factor in the Bulldogs success as they went on to capture the 12-0 victory over the Owls in five innings.

UP NEXT
The Owls are back in action on Wednesday, March 13 when they face Rollins College for doubleheader action in their final day of play in the Sunshine State. Game one is slated for a 1 p.m. start in Winter Park, Fla.
